The Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) supported the testimonial match for one of the emblematic figures of Bulgarian volleyball, Teodor Salparov. The show "One Career - One Legend" is on September 5th at 4:30 PM in the capital's "Arena 8888".
The event will mark the end of the remarkable professional career of the libero, who for two decades was among the leading names in Bulgarian volleyball.
Salparov has participated in two Olympic Games. His debut was in Beijing in 2008, when Bulgaria reached the quarterfinals and finished in fifth place. Four years later in London, the national team reached the semifinals and came within a step of the medals with their fourth-place finish. Salparov was recognized as the best defender of the Olympic tournament.
BOC President Vesela Lecheva emphasized the importance of such events not only as recognition for great Bulgarian athletes but also as an example for the next generation.
"To remain among the best in volleyball for 20 years is an incredible achievement. I am happy that the BOC supports this testimonial, because it is important to remember the stars of Bulgarian sports, who should also be role models for all young people who will fill the hall on September 5th," Lecheva stated.
She recalled Salparov's Olympic performances and expressed hope that Bulgarian volleyball will once again have its representative at the biggest sporting forum - the Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
The testimonial comes just before EuroVolley 2026 for men, which Bulgaria is co-hosting.
"This will be the start of a volleyball month full of emotions and, I hope, victories," added the BOC President.
On the court in "Arena 8888", the Bulgarian Stars Team and the Foreign Legends Team will meet. An interesting highlight is that Bulgaria's coach, Gianlorenzo Blengini, will lead the international selection.
The organizers plan a special gesture for the youngest volleyball fans as well - children's schools from all over the country will be able to bring their athletes up to 14 years of age for free.
Teodor Salparov's testimonial will be broadcast live on bTV, as well as online on VOYO.
