The group stage of the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship in Tianjin has concluded, and all quarter-final pairings are now clear. China, Japan, and Thailand finished at the top of their respective groups with three wins each, with the hosts passing through the preliminary phase without losing a set. Indonesia, Iran, Republic of Korea, Chinese Taipei, and Vietnam also advanced to the top eight. In the quarter-finals, Thailand will face Republic of Korea, Japan – Chinese Taipei, Indonesia – Iran, and China – Vietnam. The first two matches are on August 27, and the remaining two – on August 28.
On the last day of the group stage, three matches were played, with Republic of Korea having to come from behind against Hong Kong, Indonesia securing a place in the quarter-finals with a clean victory over Australia, and China consolidating its first position with a convincing win over Chinese Taipei.
Republic of Korea – Hong Kong 3:1 (20:25, 25:15, 25:11, 25:18)
The Koreans started slowly and had problems against Hong Kong's defense, also making attacking errors, which cost them the first set – 20:25. From the beginning of the second set, coach Cha Sang-hyun made changes, and the appearance of Lee Ju-ah and Lee Ye-rim helped stabilize the reception. Republic of Korea turned the tide of the match and convincingly won the next two sets with 15 and 11 points, before closing the match with 25:18 in the fourth. Yuk Seo-yeon was the top scorer with 22 points, Lee Da-hyeon added 14, including 4 blocks and 3 aces, and the Koreans had a significant advantage in blocking – 13:4. With this win, Republic of Korea finished the group stage with two wins and one loss and took second place in Group C after Japan.
Indonesia – Australia 3:0 (25:18, 25:17, 25:21)
Indonesia started the match better and, through their fast play, built an 11:7 lead in the first set. The Indonesians maintained the tempo and gradually increased their lead to take the set 25:18. They continued to control the match in the second set, won 25:17, while Australia offered the most serious resistance in the third part. However, Indonesia did not allow their opponent to extend the match and finished the encounter with 25:21. This was the team's second victory in Group B after their success against Kazakhstan, while their only loss was against Thailand, and thus Indonesia finished in second place and qualified for the quarter-finals.
China – Chinese Taipei 3:0 (25:17, 25:16, 25:7)
China started the match more hesitantly and fell behind 1:4, but reacted immediately with five consecutive points and turned the score around. The hosts gradually asserted their superiority and took the first set 25:17, and in the second, Chinese Taipei managed to stay closer at the beginning before the Chinese women pulled away again for 25:16. The third set was entirely under China's control – the hosts led 8:1, then made several substitutions and still reached a decisive 25:7. China finished with a 40:25 advantage in attack points and 11:1 in blocks, with Wu Mengjie and Zhuang Yushan scoring 13 points each. Thus, the Chinese women finished the group stage with three wins from three matches and without losing a set.
The quarter-final phase begins on August 27 with the matches Thailand – Republic of Korea and Japan – Chinese Taipei. On August 28 are the other two matches – Indonesia – Iran and China – Vietnam. The tournament also has a significant stake beyond the continental title – the champion receives a quota for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028, and the top three teams win spots for the World Championship in 2027.
