Kaila Simeonov – daughter of the head coach of the Bulgarian men's U20 team, Ventsislav Simeonov, and granddaughter of Kaspar Simeonov, will remain in Italian volleyball for the new season. The 16-year-old libero is moving from Volpiano to Picco Lecco, where she will play in Serie B1 during the 2026/2027 season.

Kaila is the third generation from one of the most famous families in Bulgarian volleyball, but she is already building her own name. Born in 2010, the athlete represents Italy in the youth categories and in the last two years has made an interesting change in her role on the court.
In 2024, Simeonov played in Bulgaria and was selected as the best attacker at the U16 national championship. Just a year later, now as a libero for Italy, she won a bronze medal at the U16 European Championship and was selected as the best libero of the championship.
Last season, Kaila was at Volpiano, where she played for the U18 girls and in Serie B1. Now she is moving to Picco Lecco for another season in the third tier of Italian women's volleyball.
Just a few days ago, the 16-year-old Simeonova was part of the Italian national team at the U17 World Championship in Chile. The Italian team finished in fifth place.
"I bring with me a great desire to develop and to challenge myself in a new environment. An important moment in my career is certainly the opportunity to start this new adventure in Serie B1 despite my young age," Kaila stated during her presentation as a new addition to Picco Lecco.
Simeonova chose her new club because of the project, the young and ambitious squad, and the opportunity to train at a high level every day.
Her career transformation is particularly interesting. Just two years ago, Kaila received an individual award as an attacker in Bulgaria, and today she is among Italy's promising young liberos.
"In reception and defense, I always try to give my maximum, without ever giving up," Simeonov says.
"I can't wait to start. I will give everything for this jersey and I hope that together we will have a wonderful season," she added.
At just 16 years old, Kaila Simeonova already has a European bronze, an individual award for best libero, and participation in a World Championship. The daughter of Ventsislav Simeonov and granddaughter of Kaspar Simeonov continues to write her own history in volleyball, and her next stop is Picco Lecco.
