Bulgarian international Borislava Saykova is very close to continuing her career in Greece. According to VolleyWeek, the middle blocker will likely wear the jersey of ZAON (Kifisia) in the 2026/27 season, but at the moment the transfer has not yet been officially announced by the Greek club.
Two days ago, Maritsa (Plovdiv) officially announced its separation from Saykova after three seasons. With the "yellow-blues," she won three consecutive championship titles and three Bulgarian Cups and was part of the squad that achieved a historic qualification for the elimination phase of the Champions League last season.
At this moment, neither ZAON nor Saykova herself have officially confirmed the transfer, and for this reason, her move should be considered expected but still unofficial.
If the deal is finalized, Saykova will join one of the strong teams in Greek women's volleyball. ZAON finished second in the Greek Volley League in the 2025/26 season and will represent the country in European club tournaments in the new season.
It is interesting to note that ZAON already has a significant Bulgarian presence. Desislava Nikolova played for the team in the last two seasons. The experienced outside hitter also has a past with Maritsa – she wore the jersey of the Plovdiv club in 2017/18 and again in the period 2019–2021. Nikolova was also part of the ZAON squad that reached second place in Greece last season. For the 2026/27 season, she is not currently listed in the club's roster.
Upon her potential move to Kifisia, Saykova will also change European tournaments. After parting ways with Maritsa, she will not participate with the Bulgarian champion in the Champions League qualifiers, but ZAON is registered to participate in the CEV Challenge Cup in the 2026/27 season.
The Greek vice-champion will begin its participation against Rabotnicki (Skopje). If they eliminate the Macedonian representative, ZAON will face the Turkish Aras Cargo in the next round.
Thus, if the expected transfer is made official, Borislava Saykova will continue her career abroad after three extremely successful seasons with Maritsa and will have the opportunity to play in European club tournaments again this autumn.
To the potential new Bulgarian presence in the Greek elite in the 2026/27 season, we should add two more names. Former international Vangelia Rachkovska is already officially a volleyball player for PAOK (Thessaloniki), after playing for the French Volero Le Cannet last season. Elitsa Vasileva-Atanasijevic will also be in Greece, defending the colors of Panionios. Thus, if Borislava Saykova's transfer to ZAON is made official, three Bulgarian volleyball players will play in the Greek elite in the new season.
