One of the most curious stories surrounding EuroVolley 2026 for women comes from Gothenburg, where two Slovak fans managed to oppose with their voices the thousands of Swedish fans in the stands. The official website of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) tells the unusual story.
During the match between Sweden and Slovakia, the stands of "Scandinavium" were filled with supporters in yellow, and the match attracted a record audience for women's volleyball in the country. Amidst all this noise, however, the voices of only two people who came from Slovakia stood out – Tomáš Frič and Ludo Hrušecký.
The reason the two traveled the long way to Sweden is much more than their love for volleyball. Tomáš Frič is the father of the captain of the Slovak national team and outside hitter Karolína Fričová, and Ludo Hrušecký is the father of middle blocker Tereza Hrušecká.
The two fathers regularly travel the world to follow their daughters and support them from the stands. This was also the case in Gothenburg, where despite the huge numerical superiority of the home fans, the two-person Slovak fan club had no intention of going unnoticed.
"We are proud supporters of Slovakia. And, of course, our daughters play for the national team, so we come to support them," Ludo Hrušecký told CEV.
The story of the two Slovak fathers became one of the curious off-court moments of the European Championship. While thousands of Swedes celebrated every point of their team, high in the stands two people reminded that sometimes a true volleyball fan club doesn't need huge numbers – two families and a lot of passion for the game are enough.
