The legendary Argentinian coach will receive his diploma at a special ceremony on May 12
The University of Trieste will award an honorary master's degree in psychology to Julio Velasco, who is currently the coach of the Italian women's national volleyball team, according to the authoritative Italian online volleyball publicationvolleyball.it.
The ceremony is scheduled for May 12 at 11:00 AM Italian time in the university's main hall. The maestro, Olympic champion from the Paris Games last summer, has distinguished himself, the university management in the coastal city emphasizes, as "one of the most innovative and influential figures on the national and international sports scene over the past four decades, capable of transforming the dynamics of applying individual and collective potential!".
After initial successes in Argentina and championship titles won in Modena, Julio Velasco, from the late 1980s, nurtured the generation of phenomena in the men's national team, which, stringing victory after victory, trophy after trophy, entered the world elite of volleyball.
During his long coaching career, he has led several national teams, becoming the first volleyball coach to win titles with countries from three different continents.
The coach, adds the University of Trieste, "was a pioneer in applying the principles of sports psychology in training, through which he emphasized the importance of mental strength in support of physical and technical preparation."
The academic recognition was initiated by the Department of Life Sciences, where the sports psychology laboratory has been active for 25 years.
