43 in the national team, Teodor Bogdanov coach of the B team

Following a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation (BVF), where key issues such as the work of the Referee Commission and the need for more and better-trained referees were discussed, the ambitious plan for the men's national team was also announced. Head coach Gianlorenzo Blengini and his staff have called up an impressive squad of 43 players for the upcoming training camps before the season in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL).

Flexible Structure and Clear Goal: The Path to Los Angeles 2028

A key moment in the new approach is the lack of a preliminary division into "A" and "B" teams. All 43 players, including established names and young talents from Bulgaria and abroad (including players from youth formations), will start training together. The goal is for everyone to experience the atmosphere, requirements, and work methodology of the first team, with the best performers getting a chance to play in the VNL. Movement between groups will be possible at any time at the discretion of the coaching staff, who have observed the players throughout the past year. This approach is part of a long-term strategy with a horizon of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, supported by Blengini's 3+2 year contract.

Samokov - the national team's base, Bogdanov takes over the "B" team

The main preparation for the men's team and the U21 team will take place in Samokov, where the excellent conditions of the sports complex will be utilized. Players who do not travel for the VNL tournaments (the so-called "B" team) will continue to train in Bulgaria under the guidance of Teodor Bogdanov. This ensures continuity of the process and readiness of reserves to join if needed.

Busy Schedule and Full Support

The schedule is extremely busy " VNL tournaments (Canada, Bulgaria, Poland), potential finals in Poland, and in the longer term, a training camp in Japan with control matches against the hosts and the USA. All called-up players have already been informed. The only absentee from the start will be Dobromir Dimitrov. The full squad is expected to gather around May 17-18 in Samokov, when the BVF management will meet with the team to confirm its full support and discuss the goals and conditions for the season.

Expectations for the men's team are high, and the federation wished health to the players and staff and expressed hope for many successes during the year.
