Japan became the first team to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship in Tianjin. On the second day of competition, the Japanese recorded their second consecutive victory, while Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei achieved their first successes in the tournament.

Japan – Republic of Korea 3:0 (33:31, 25:19, 25:20)
Japan won the Asian derby and was the first to guarantee participation in the quarterfinals. The first set was the most contested, with both teams reaching 31:31 before the Japanese snatched the next two rallies for 33:31. Japan then took control and closed out the next two sets at 19 and 20 points. Yukiko Wada was the top scorer for the winners with 19 points – 15 from attack, 2 blocks, and 2 aces. Yoshino Sato added 18 points – 16 from attack and 2 blocks. For the Republic of Korea, Na Hyunsu finished with 15 points. Japan now has two wins and 6 points and cannot finish lower than second place in the group, which guarantees them a spot among the top eight.

Kazakhstan – Australia 3:0 (25:21, 25:18, 25:21)
Kazakhstan achieved its first victory in the tournament and returned to the fight for advancement. The Kazakhs controlled all three sets, with Australia managing to get closest to their opponent in the first and third parts. Tatyana Nikitina was the big figure for the winners with 20 points – 14 from attack, 3 blocks, and 3 aces. Ella Milne scored 12 points for Australia. With this success, Kazakhstan collected 3 points and drew level with Thailand and Indonesia, who also have one win each in Group B.

Chinese Taipei – Iraq 3:0 (25:5, 25:8, 25:11)
Chinese Taipei achieved its first victory in a more than emphatic manner. Iraq managed to take only 24 points in the entire match, and the difference between the two teams was particularly significant in the first set, which ended 25:5. Kan Ko-Hui and Chan Yi-Chi scored 14 points each for the winners, while Dorim Shamou was the top scorer for Iraq with 6. Chinese Taipei now has one win and 3 points and has joined the battle with China and Iran in Group A.

After the second day, Japan is the only team that has already guaranteed a place in the quarterfinals. In Groups A and B, however, the situation remains open. Today, Vietnam – Hong Kong, Thailand – Indonesia, and China – Iran are scheduled, and their results will bring more clarity to the battle for the eliminations.
The Asian Championship also has a bigger stake – it allocates a quota for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028 and three spots for the World Cup in 2027.
