Luciano De Cecco retires from the national team after the Olympic Games in Paris

Luciano De Cecco, one of the best players in the world, hinted that he would retire from the national team after the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Argentine media report. Thus, the setter for Modena, who will be the flag bearer at the opening ceremony on July 26 in the French capital, begins his farewell to "Albiceleste".

At 36 years old (born June 2, 1988) and a native of Santa Fe province, he won the bronze medal at the last games in Tokyo 2020 and will compete in his fourth Olympic competition in Paris. It all started with a post from a specialized volleyball website that uploaded a photo of Ángel Di María on its social networks after the Copa América final and posted: "Don't even think about @dececcovolley, we are not prepared" as a joke. Di María's profile hints at the player's retirement from the national team, comparing the careers of both players. Surprisingly and jokingly, De Cecco replied: "Get ready," hinting that his time left with "Celeste y Blanca" is short.

Similarly, Volley Plus also focused on the fact that he will not be the only one to leave the national team and that Facundo Conte and coach Marcelo Méndez will join him, although the two have given no indications. Some of the important achievements accomplished in Luciano De Cecco's extensive sports career: he was part of the national team at the Olympic Games in London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016, and Tokyo 2020, where he won a bronze medal and was named the best setter of the tournament – he also became part of the ideal team of the games.

In 2015, he became champion of the Pan American Games held in Toronto, Canada, and was chosen as the best setter in the world in the World League in 2011. Since 2012, he has played in the Italian elite, successively passing through "Piacenza", "Perugia" and "Lube", where he spent four seasons (two with Alex Nikolov), before arriving at "Modena".
