An unusual and unpleasant incident marked the end of Match No. 5 of the Super League semi-final series between Perugia and Lube Civitanova. A video circulating after the match shows the eccentric president of Perugia Volley, Gino Sirci, making gestures towards the visiting Lube fans.
In connection with what happened, Perugia Volley issued an official statement in which President Sirci explains the reasons for his reaction. According to him, at the end of the match, he was "offensively attacked by the visiting fans with insults and curses, even prolonged."
Despite the provocations, Gino Sirci apologizes for the gesture, which he describes as an "emotional reaction stemming from the moment." He emphasizes that such behavior is unusual for him throughout his career as club president.
In their statement, Perugia also expressed the opinion that the behavior of the visiting fans was "inappropriate, as at a moment when only one's own team should have been celebrated, they became the protagonists of unusual behavior for the volleyball environment."
The incident cast a shadow over the sports rivalry and sparked discussions in Italian volleyball circles.
