The freshman, playing as a setter for Long Beach State, was named "Freshman of the Week" in the Big West Conference for a record seventh time this season. This is also his tenth overall conference award for 2025, highlighting his significant impact on the team.

The award comes after Nikolov led his team, the "Beach," to two important 3-0 set victories against No. 10 ranked UC San Diego. These successes secured Long Beach State their third consecutive regular season title in the Big West conference. Under Nikolov's leadership, the team achieved a high attack efficiency of45.7%for both matches, with the Bulgarian averaging 12.17 assists per set.
