Japanese internationals Yuki Ishikawa and Mayu Ishikawa became the big heroes of the first-ever Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Gala Night. The brother and sister earned the most prestigious individual awards, having been chosen respectively as the Best Male Volleyball Player and Best Female Volleyball Player of Asia during the official ceremony in Bangkok (Thailand). With this, the Ishikawa family left a lasting mark in the history of Asian volleyball, becoming the first brother and sister to simultaneously win the highest individual awards at the first-of-its-kind AVC Gala Night. In addition to the awards for best players, the confederation also honored coaches, referees, beach volleyball players, young talents, and individuals with outstanding contributions to the development of the sport. The ceremony marked the beginning of a new tradition, with which the AVC will pay tribute to the most deserving representatives of volleyball in Asia.

Japan was the undisputed winner at the first AVC Gala. In addition to the two most prestigious individual awards for men and women, the country also won the Coach of the Year award through Ferhat Akbas, as well as the women's beach volleyball award through Asami Shiba and Reika Murakami. This solidified the leading position of Japanese volleyball on the Asian stage.

The Coach of the Year award was deservedly given to Ferhat Akbas, who led the Japanese women's national team to new successes during the season. In beach volleyball, the men's award went to the Qatari tandem Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, who continue to be among the strongest pairs in the world. The winners in the women's category were the Japanese Asami Shiba and Reika Murakami. The "Fans' Choice" awards also took a special place in the program. In women's beach volleyball, the award went to the Filipinas Cherry Ann Rondina and Bernadeth Pons, who won the sympathy of fans in the online voting. According to the organizers, nearly 400,000 people participated in the fan awards survey, which made the initiative one of the largest in the history of the Asian Volleyball Confederation. The first AVC gala evening gathered some of the biggest names in Asian volleyball in Bangkok and marked the beginning of a new tradition that will annually honor the best athletes, coaches, and officials on the continent. For Japan, however, the evening will remain historic primarily due to the unique success of Yuki and Mayu Ishikawa, who turned their family name into a symbol of excellence in Asian volleyball.
