Beach volleyball Olympic champion Anders Mol could make his official debut in the Italian SuperLega precisely against Aleksandar and Simeon Nikolov. The new championship begins with an intriguing clash, as in the first round Cucine Lube (Civitanova), where the two Bulgarian internationals will play, visits Rana Verona.
The 29-year-old Norwegian officially joined the Verona squad and will try to revive his career in indoor volleyball after a six-year absence. He will be used as an opposite hitter and will partner with Austrian international Paul Buchegger.
Mol is one of the biggest stars in the history of beach volleyball. In tandem with Christian Sørum, he won the Olympic title in Tokyo 2020, the World Championship title in 2022, five European titles (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2025), as well as five World Tour trophies (2018, 2019, 2022, 2024, and 2025). The two also have bronze medals from the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 and the World Championship in 2019.
Mol last played indoor volleyball in the 2019/20 season with Norwegian Førde, and before that, he defended the colors of Belgian Noliko Maaseik in the 2016/17 season. In both teams, he played as an outside hitter, while in Verona he will be re-qualified as an opposite hitter.
This summer, the bronze medalist from the last Italian championship strengthened its squad with French setter Kellian Paes, middle blocker Simone Anzani, opposite hitter Paul Buchegger, and libero Leonardo Scanferla.
In the 2025/26 season, Verona recorded the most successful campaign in the history of the club Verona Volley, founded in 2021, after winning bronze medals in the Italian SuperLega. The team also won its first trophy – the Italian Cup, and in the new season, it will debut in the group stage of the Champions League, where it will also meet Bogdanka Lublin with Alex Grozdanov.
The first official match of the season between Verona and Lube on October 18 is awaited with great interest, as it will pit one of the most successful athletes in the history of beach volleyball against the two Bulgarian talents Aleksandar and Simeon Nikolov.
