Sad news for the volleyball world in Italy – the Ortona club, which for many years was part of the elite of Italian volleyball, officially announced the end of its era in Serie A, as reported byvolleyball.it. President Andrea Lanci shared with pain that due to economic difficulties and the rising costs of maintaining the team, they will not be able to participate in the next edition of Serie A3. This comes after years of effort, sacrifice, and disappointments, with Lanci emphasizing that despite everything, the club will not disappear completely and will continue to focus on youth volleyball. Lanci also criticized the existing system: "It does not protect small clubs. Our best young players leave at 15-16 years old for big teams, without the club receiving any compensation. This way, you cannot grow. This is no longer sustainable." This is a serious blow for a club that just a few seasons ago was on the verge of promotion to the SuperLega. In the 2023/24 season, former national setter and current Neftochimic player – Dobromir Dimitrov – also played for this team.
