The Association of Bulgarian Sports Federations (ABSF) expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the team of Minister Ivan Peshev, and the political parties that supported the increase in funding for Bulgarian sports.
In 2025, the budget for sports and youth policy will increase by BGN 42,025,400 compared to 2024., which represents a growth of nearly 31%. The total amount reaches BGN 179,469,800. Funds for high-performance sports amount to BGN 111,983,800 – BGN 20,652,600 more than the previous year.
ABSF, established in December, actively presented key issues to the executive and legislative authorities, such as the underfunding of the sports sector, the lack of training halls, and the undervaluation of the work of coaches and specialists. Prior to the adoption of the budget, members of the Association's Governing Board held a series of meetings with Minister Peshev and representatives of the parliamentary parties.
"This increase is an important step forward, but our efforts will not stop here. Our goal is 0.5% of GDP for sports, and ABSF will continue to work towards its realization. We will also participate in the development of strategic documents for the future of Bulgarian sports to ensure its sustainable development," stated the Association.
The additional funds are expected to support both elite sports and the creation of better conditions for the preparation and development of young talents in Bulgaria.
