The semifinal playoff matches in the Italian Women's Volleyball League (Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1) continue with a bang! In the second match of the series, played at "Pala Igor Gorgonzola," Igor Novara achieved an impressive 3:0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-19) victory against Imoco Conegliano, not only tying the series (1-1) but also ending the opponent's historic streak of 50 consecutive wins (this streak includes both victories against Maritsa Plovdiv in the Champions League group stageed. note).
Conegliano had not lost an official match for 346 days– their last loss came on April 17, 2024, against Savino Del Bene Scandicci (2:3) in the final series of the same tournament. Now, however, Novara showed great play and recorded a significant victory. "Imoco" lost in three sets. An event that is not unique, but certainly rare. The last time this happened was on May 9, 2023, in Match 2 of the championship finals against "Vero Volley" Milan.
The heroes of the nightIgor Novara's Russian outside hitter, Tatiana Tolok, played a brilliant match and finished as the top scorer with 26 points. For Imoco Conegliano, the best was the Swedish star Isabelle Haak with 20 points.
The Coach and the Captain: Pride and AmbitionNovara's head coach, Lorenzo Bernardi, praised his team: "We played a perfect match! I'm happy for the girls, they deserve to continue the series and play another match in this incredible atmosphere. Our serve and defense were key to limiting the opponent's dominant play."
The team captain, Francesca Bosio, added: "A match on the brink of perfection was needed, and we succeeded! After our weak performance in the first match, today we showed what we can do. I am proud of the whole team! Now nothing is over – we earned the opportunity to play a fourth match and we will give our all."
