Първо във VolleyWeek

The women's transfer market in our southern neighbor was shaken by the news of the acquisition by the newcomer to the Greek elite championship GSS Panionios of one of the best outside hitters - Bulgarian national Elitsa Vasileva! The experienced volleyball player, who is currently with the Turkish giant Fenerbahçe, will strengthen the Greek team in the fight for accolades, according to Greek media.
With her height, athleticism, and rich experience, Vasileva will bring class to Panionios' attack. She possesses a powerful serve and a rich repertoire of shots from both front and back rows. She is expected to be a key figure in the Volleyball League playoffs and the Greek Cup final.
The transfer of the Bulgarian ranks among the serious moves of the club, along with the acquisition of the head coach of the Bulgarian women's national team U21, Dragan Nesic. The 54-year-old specialist signed with Panionios at the beginning of the year. Prior to that, he led the giant Panathinaikos (Athens), with whom he won the championship trophy in 2023/2024. With these additions, the "blue-reds" declare ambitions for top achievements and establishment among the leading teams in the Greek championship.

What does Vasileva's transfer mean for Panionios?

1️⃣Classy attack- Vasileva adds power and variability to the offense.
2️⃣Leadership qualities- as a long-time captain of Bulgaria, she will bring experience and a winning mentality.
3️⃣Improved serving game- her powerful serve can tip the scales in crucial moments.
4️⃣Team balance- along with the other new additions, Panionios now has a more competitive squad.

An interesting fact is that Elitsa Vasileva is going to Greece, which will finally bring her relatively close to her husband, Aleksandar Atanasijevic, who is continuing his career at Olympiacos (Piraeus). This suggests that the former Serbian international will not want to leave our southern neighbor next season.
We remind you that the other Bulgarian in Fenerbahçe - Hristina Vuchkova, will also leave the team for Russia.
