The Association of Bulgarian Sports Federations (ABSF) expresses serious concern regarding the events shaking the Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC). For the first time in the organization's 100-year history, decisions of the General Assembly are being challenged through blanket complaints that do not question the legality of the election but aim for a prolonged and unnecessary legal dispute.
All this is accompanied by entirely negative media coverage, which is already damaging the BOC's reputation. Even more concerning is that the scandal is gaining international resonance, casting doubt on the organization's reputation before the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the European Olympic Committees (EOC).
The election assembly on March 19, 2025, proceeded with clear and transparent procedures, with 83 out of 86 delegates participating, and the vote was acknowledged by all parties. Nevertheless, the subsequent legal claims create a dangerous precedent and undermine trust in Olympic institutions in Bulgaria.
ABSF calls for reason and responsibility to preserve the BOC's authority and avoid long-term reputational damage to Bulgarian sports.
The newly elected president of the BOC, Vesela Lecheva, is also a member of the Association.
