Moni Nikolov broke the record for the most aces in Long Beach State history, nowhaving 65 direct points from serves. The Bulgarian setter achieved this incredible success in 58 matches, which places him at an impressive average of 1.12 aces per set. The record was set in the match against #19 Princeton, where Nikolov added three more aces to his tally. And there's still a month left in the season!
With this new record, Moni surpasses Paul Lotman, who recorded 60 aces for the season in 2008. But the most interesting thing is that his brother, Alex Nikolov, is also in the ranking – he was the leader with 59 aces in 2022 and was second in the ranking before Moni came to America. Moni, however, managed to displace them, now being the new leader in the university's history for aces.
In the match itself, Long Beach State (18-0) continued its impressive performance and won 25-19, 25-22, 25-19 against Princeton. Varga finished with 11 attack points and four aces, while Nato Dickinson recorded seven blocks. Moni Nikolov recorded 9 points (3 aces, 2 blocks), with his aces playing an important role in controlling the pace of the game.
This was Long Beach's 9th consecutive clean victory, and their next three matches will be at home, with the first one against NJIT on March 21
