The head coach of the Iranian national team, Roberto Piazza, will remain in his position at least until the end of the 2026 Asian Championship. This was confirmed by the president of the Iranian Volleyball Federation, Milad Taghavi, in a television interview, putting an end to speculations about the future of the Italian specialist.
According to Taghavi, Piazza's current contract is valid until the end of the continental championship, after which the federation will evaluate the work done.
"Roberto Piazza's contract is until the end of the Asian Championship. After the tournament, we will evaluate the results of his work and make a decision about the future," said the president of the federation.
However, Taghavi made it clear that the management views the project with the Italian coach as a long-term one.
"Our plan is to continue cooperation with him until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, if everything goes according to expectations," added the president of the Iranian Federation.
The support for Piazza comes just days after he himself severely criticized the team's performance following its participation in the Volleyball Nations League. The Italian specialist stated that the biggest problem is not the team's technical qualities, but the lack of mental resilience, admitting he was disappointed with how players reacted in difficult moments during matches.
Roberto Piazza took over the Iranian national team before the start of the 2026 season and led the team in the Volleyball Nations League. The next big challenge for the Asian team is the Asian Championship, which will be the first major tournament where Piazza will have the opportunity to compete for an honor with his new squad.
