The Bulgarian national volleyball team U18 lost their last group stage match at the European Championship, which is taking place in Romania and Greece. Our team fell to Hungary 2:3, with the "lionesses" officially concluding the first stage of EuroVolley 2024. Our group was held in the Greek city of Heraklion, and in all 7 of their matches, our volleyball players played good volleyball, winning 6 of them.
In today's match against the "Magyars", our "lionesses" started decisively, winning the first game with a crushing score of 25:12. Our play was excellent in every element. The second set again passed entirely under Bulgarian initiative, but this time the Hungarians put up more resistance. Ultimately, Bulgaria calmly closed the second game after 25:17. The third set was much better for Hungary, who significantly improved their play, while Bulgaria relaxed a bit after the first two excellent parts. The young "Magyars" took advantage of the hesitation in our team and managed to win the third game quite decisively after 25:18. The fourth set started better for Bulgaria, but gradually after the middle, Hungary equalized, and subsequently took the lead. Our opponent reached game point at 24:23, but was immediately neutralized by our girls, who in turn had a match point at 25:24. We also did not take advantage of this chance, and Hungary got another one to close the fourth game, which they also did not utilize. Ultimately, the "Magyars" snatched the game after 28:26, which meant a tie-break. The Hungarians started the fifth game more confidently, and after the middle, they led comfortably 8:5, but Bulgaria equalized at 12:12. Our opponent reached match point at 14:13, and then capitalized instantly with an ace in our court, thus winning the match 3:2 in sets.
Thus, coach Antonina Zetova's protégées finished the group stage of EuroVolley 2024 with 6 wins from 7 matches.
We are yet to find out who Bulgaria's opponent will be in the semi-finals.
