Secretary General of the Russian Volleyball Federation: Russian clubs go to Dubai after agreement with FIVB and IOC

Alexander Yaromenko, the Secretary General of the Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV), confirmed that "Dynamo" Moscow and "Nova" Novokuibyshevsk will take part in the prestigious NAS Sports Tournament in Dubai.

Coordinated participation and political significance

Yaromenko emphasized that organizing the participation of Russian teams was not easy, but it ultimately received approval from FIVB (International Volleyball Federation). Negotiations took place in parallel with the FIVB congress in Portugal. At the same time, discussions were held with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which also had no objections to the participation of Russian clubs in Dubai. This creates an important precedent, allowing Russian clubs to compete on the international stage despite the restrictions.

"Despite the inconveniences, we tried our best to do it. The clubs responded, and given our situation, this is a significant political moment,"Yaromenko toldwww.sport-express.ru."The only thing is that the flag and anthem still remain banned. But, I think, for club teams this is not as important as for national teams",added Yaromenko.

A chance for Russian volleyball

The NAS Sports Tournament in Dubai is one of the most prestigious sports competitions in the region and provides an opportunity for Russian clubs to test their level against strong opponents outside of the domestic league. This tournament is perhaps the first step towards "unfreezing" after the ban on Russian teams participating in competitions under the auspices of CEV, FIVB, and the IOC.
