Kristian Titriyski, a right side hitter for the University of Hawaii, made program history after being named AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) National Player of the Week for Divisions I-II. This organization supports and develops volleyball in the USA by providing awards, rankings, training, and resources for coaches, athletes, and teams at high school, collegiate, and professional levels. This recognition marks the first time in "Rainbow Warriors" history that a freshman has won this award.
The Bulgarian talent made a splash in matches against then-No. 3 ranked UC Irvine, leading his team to two decisive three-set victories. His performance was impressive - averaging 6.00 kills per set and 7.00 points per set, with a hitting percentage of 41.7%.
Titriyski not only became the first University of Hawaii freshman to receive this prestigious award, but also joined just three other freshmen in "Rainbow Warriors" history to receive such an honor. Before him, Siniša Zarković (2013) and Costas Theocharidis (2000) had done so, but neither of them was recognized as National Player of the Week in their debut season.
Titriyski's journey this season is impressive - he leads the University of Hawaii with an average of 4.20 kills per set, placing him sixth nationally and third in the Big West. Additionally, he is the team leader in aces (27) and ranks seventh in the country with an average of 0.54 aces per set.
With such performances, the Bulgarian not only writes his name into the history of the University of Hawaii but also establishes himself as one of the best freshmen in American collegiate volleyball. The question now is - how far can Titriyski go this season?
