Mitko Dimitrov in the final for the French Cup, Iliya Petkov dramatically eliminated after a tie-break

Bulgarians ended in two poles of mood after last night's 1/2 final matches for the French Volleyball Cup. Dimitar Dimitrov and Montpellier somewhat surprisingly easily defeated the visiting team of Chaumont (they, along with Montpellier, are in first place in the championship in the temporary standings) with a score of 3:0 (25:15, 25:19, 25:18) and qualified for the grand final. The boys of the former national coach started well in all three sets, after which the hosts increased the tempo and finished the parts with a difference. Dimitar Dimitrov's last attack in the hands of Chaumont's block sent Montpellier to the French Cup final in an exceptional atmosphere in Castelnau. Our national opposite finished second in scoring for his team - 12 points (1 block) and 44% in attack. From 16 serves, Dimitrov only made 3 errors. The hosts' advantage was in both blocks and points from serves, with a ratio of 2/1. Thomas Pascal finished with the most points for the winners - 13. None of the guests surpassed ten points. Thus, after Trentino eliminated Chaumont from European tournaments, Silvano Prandi's boys, who played in the same group as Levski in the Champions League, also had to say goodbye to the fight for the French Cup, which they won in 2022.

National player Iliya Petkov left Tourcoing in a minor mood after his Toulouse team dramatically lost 2:3 (25:19, 20:25, 25:20, 25:27, 15:12). The visitors managed to keep their composure and overcame 2 match points in the fourth set (24:22, 24:23) to force the match into a tie-break. It started well for Toulouse, with the first equalization coming after an attack error by Petkov (5:5). A new tie followed at 8:8, after which the hosts took the lead and did not relinquish the initiative until the end. Petkov managed to make the score 14:12, followed by an attack by Kuratsev that sent the hosts to the final. Our national player finished with 9 points (1 block). The hosts finished the match with 21 points from blocks (!) against only 4 for Toulouse!

Thus, in the final on March 29, Tourcoing and Montpellier will face each other, with the match to be played in the city of Chartres, 96 kilometers from Paris. This is a chance for Montpellier to win their first French Cup, after being in the final again last year. This is the fourth Cup final in the club's history.
