A 53-year-old volleyball coach was arrested by carabinieri in Varese, Lombardy region, Northern Italy, on charges of sexual abuse against female athletes aged between 13 and 16, the volleynews.it website reported. The pre-trial detention order was issued by the Varese court at the request of the prosecutor's office.
The investigation began in November 2024 following a report from one of the victims, who told her mother and investigators about the abuses during training sessions and matches. During the investigation, concrete evidence was gathered, and the arrested person was taken to Varese prison.
