Long Beach State's No. 1-ranked volleyball team once again demonstrated its power, sweeping Barton 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-20). The 'Beach' achieved an impressive 56.7% hitting percentage, made only six errors, and served 12 aces in a dominant performance.
Alex Kandev and Sebastiano Sani led the attack with 12 points each, achieving incredible efficiencies of 70.6% and 68.8%. Moni Nikolov was unstoppable from the service line with five aces, and five more teammates each added one.Kandev finished with 17 points (3 aces, 2 blocks) and Moni Nikolov added 11 points (5 aces, 3 blocks).. Binev participated briefly but did not score. Buchkov rested this match.
Long Beach State (14-0) started strong with a block by Nikolov. An ace from Kandev increased the momentum, and Ben Brown added another for a 4-1 lead. Barton tried to respond with successful attacks, but the 'Beach' maintained control at 10-7. Nikolov served his first ace at 13-8, and a block by Brown and Kandev brought the score to 19-11. Barton took only three more points – 25-14.
The second set began with a powerful block by Brown and Nikolov. A triple block increased the lead to 7-4, and Conner Bloom scored two consecutive kills for 14-7. Isaiah Pruitt added his first ace of the season. Set Deppe responded for Barton, but Nikolov served three consecutive aces and closed the set at 25-13.
Barton started strong in the third set and led 6-3. Jake Adams' attacks kept them ahead until 12-12, when Sani tied the score. The 'Beach' remained one point behind, but a Barton service error maintained the difference at 16-15. A solo block by Brown brought the tie – 16-16.
Bloom gave Long Beach State its first lead at 17-16 and forced the 'Bulldogs' coach to call a timeout. Another point from him made the score 20-18. Kandev executed a powerful attack for match point, and Sani ended the match with an ace – 3-0.
A week of rest follows for the 'Beach' before their match against No. 12 CSUN on March 5 in Northridge.
