The Italian women's U22 national team is at the top of Europe. Marco Mencarelli'sgirlswon the continental title in Lecce, defeating Serbia in the final with a 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 26-24) victory. The team, which includes Beatrice, the daughter of legend Andrea Gardini, dominated all their opponents, achieving five wins out of five matches, to the delight of the enthusiastic spectators at the Palazzetto Dello Sport "San Giuseppe da Copertino" in Lecce.
The same team won a silver medal eleven months ago at the U21 Women's World Championship in Mexico. On their way to winning European gold, Italy overcame Latvia, Ukraine, and Turkey in the group stage, before again defeating Turkey in the semi-final and Serbia in the final.
