Marcelo Mendez leaves Poland and takes over Itas Trentino

After a successful period with Jastrzębski Węgiel, Argentinian specialist Marcelo Méndez will bid farewell to the Polish club after the end of the season. According to information from Jakub Balcerzak, Méndez will not go to Japan, as initially supposed, but will take over the Italian giant Itas Trentino with a two-year contract.

Méndez's successes in Poland

Méndez has been in charge of Jastrzębski Węgiel since the 2022/2023 season and during this period:
🏆 Won 2 Polish championship titles
🏆 Won the Polish Super Cup
🥈 Reached the Champions League final twice

The Polish adventure for the Argentinian is coming to an end, but after him, Jastrzębski Węgiel will likely be taken over by Andrzej Kowal.

New challenge in Italy

Méndez's expected move to Itas Trentino will be his first coaching challenge in Italy. Trentino is one of the strongest clubs in Europe, and with the experience of the Argentinian coach, the team will strive for new successes in Serie A and the Champions League.

What will happen with the Argentinian national team?

It is still unclear whether Méndez will continue to lead the Argentinian national team. After the Olympic Games, it seemed his mission there had ended, but recently rumors have emerged that he might remain in his post. A decision on this matter has not yet been made.
