The head coach of the Serbian national team Zoran Terzic confirmed that stars Tijana Bošković, Maja Ognjenović, and libero Aleksandra Jegdić are already preparing with the team for the home tournament of the Nations League in Belgrade (July 9-13), where Serbia's first opponent will be Bulgaria.
The good news for the hosts, however, is accompanied by a serious loss. Terzic revealed to Sport Klub that middle blocker Maja Aleksić will no longer play in this year's edition of the Nations League.
"Unfortunately, the Nations League is over for Maja. Due to health problems, doctors prescribed her complete rest, and we will have to continue without her. We wish her a speedy recovery. We will miss her a lot both on and off the court. This is a serious blow for us, but at the moment, her health is the most important thing," Terzic stated.
The specialist also commented on the condition of one of the young hopes of Serbian volleyball – Nadja Antonović. After returning from the Philippines, the setter developed a high fever, with doctors initially suspecting mononucleosis. Subsequently, these fears were not confirmed, and she is expected to return to training soon.
Earlier, Terzic stated that Bošković and Ognjenović would "99.9 percent" likely be included in the squad for the tournament, with their playing time depending on their physical readiness.
There is also positive news from the Bulgarian camp. Opposite hitter Iva Dudova, who will play for the Turkish grand Eczacıbaşı Dynavit from the new season, is already training with the national team after undergoing surgery. However, she is expected to miss the tournament in Belgrade, as her preparation is focused on the European Championship at the end of August.
