Following an unsuccessful performance in the Champions League group stage, Stefano Saya was released from his position as head coach of C. S. O. Voluntari 2005, the club announced on social media. The management of the Romanian team, where Mira Todorova plays, has not yet announced the name of his successor. Stefano Saya arrived at CSO Voluntari 2005 before the 2024/2025 season. At that time, the Romanian team was coming off the biggest success in its history, having won the national title in the 2023/2024 season. The Italian specialist was expected to give the team a boost for further development, but he did not fully live up to the hopes placed in him. That is why his paths with the Romanian club parted ways.
Under his leadership, C. S. O. Voluntari 2005 won the Romanian Super Cup, but has been performing disappointingly in the Romanian league, where they occupy only third place, 4 points behind Monica Krasteva's Volei Alba Blaj and Gergana Kyoseva's Dinamo București.
Even weaker was their performance in the Champions League group stage, where the team achieved only one victory. In Group E, at home, they defeated BKS BOSTiK ZGO Bielsko-Biała, but away they had no great chances against Bartłomiej Piekarczyk's trainees. In the end, they finished only fourth in the group and bid farewell to their participation in European tournaments.
The Romanian club appreciated the Italian specialist's work so far, but determined that now is the most opportune moment for a change in the coaching position. "During his time in Voluntari, Stefano Saya led the team to two important milestones: he won the Romanian Super Cup, which is the second trophy in the club's history, and qualified the team for the Champions League group stage. These events will certainly be cornerstones in Voluntari's development," the club wrote on social media, but has not yet announced the name of the Italian's successor.
