The USA has excluded transgender athletes from women's competitions, volleyball is no exception.

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order, titled "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports," which prohibits transgender athletes from participating in girls' and women's sports competitions. The order requires federal agencies to enforce Title IX of the Education Act by interpreting "sex" as defined at birth. This means that schools and sports associations that allow transgender athletes to compete on women's teams could lose federal funding.
The order coincided with National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Trump stated that with this order, "the war on women's sports is over."
The decision drew criticism from human rights organizations, which called it discriminatory and a violation of transgender rights. The order is expected to be challenged in court.

Donald Trump's order, which prohibits transgender athletes from participating in women's sports, could also have a significant impact on volleyball. There have also been cases involving transgender competitors that caused strong reactions in the world of this sport. One of the most famous cases is that ofTiffany Abreu- a Brazilian volleyball player who was the first trans woman to play in Brazil's elite women's league. Her presence on the court led to disputes regarding her physical strength compared to other competitors.

There were similar cases related to volleyball in the USA, which gained notorious fame.

A similar case also emerged in France, where Ceryl Bayon, a transgender volleyball player, was granted permission to play in the women's League 2, but faced strong opposition from opponents of transgender participation in sports.
If such a policy were applied in collegiate and professional volleyball leagues in the US, it would mean that trans women would not be able to compete in the NCAA and other federally funded competitions. This could lead to changes in the rules of the American Volleyball Federation and potentially affect the future of athletes already competing at a high level.
Bulgaria also suffered from the more liberal attitude towards such athletes. We all remember how Svetlana Kamenova failed to reach the medals at the boxing Olympic tournament in Paris. She was stopped in the quarterfinals by the judges and by Lin Yu Ting from Taiwan, who became known for a failed gender determination test in 2023, but was allowed to participate in the Games by the IOC. In this tournament, another designated transgender, Imane Khelif from Algeria, became the winner, earning a gold medal in women's boxing up to 66 kg after defeating Yang Liu from China in the final of the Paris Olympics.

The decision will certainly continue to spark debates in both political and sporting aspects, and volleyball will remain one of the arenas where this issue will be hotly discussed.
