Will Darina Naneva play in the French elite? The denouement is approaching

Even before playing her first official match in the French championship, Darina Naneva found herself at the center of one of the most interesting stories in French volleyball. The new club of the Bulgarian international – Virtus Le Cannet (formerly Volero Le Cannet) – awaits the decision of the financial commission of the French National Volleyball League (DNACG), which on July 2 must rule on whether the team will receive a license to participate in the elite Saforelle Power 6 for the 2026/27 season.
Just a few weeks ago, the club's future seemed seriously threatened. Following the surprising resignation of the main investor and president Stav Jakoby, the financial commission of the French National Volleyball League (DNACG) initially denied Le Cannet's license. The reason, however, was not related to sporting results, but to the change in management and the need to present additional financial guarantees and documents proving the project's sustainability.
Instead of accepting the decision, the management immediately filed an appeal and began working on the club's restructuring. Meanwhile, Volero Le Cannet officially changed its name to Virtus Le Cannet, presented its new identity under the motto "One Name, One Vision, One Ambition," and continued to build its squad for the next season, with Bulgarian international Darina Naneva among the new additions.

The latest information from France also instills optimism. The regional daily Nice-Matin published an interview with the club's general director, Jelena Lozancic, who assures that the situation is far calmer than it appears from the outside.
"Le Cannet is still alive," states Lozancic, who is convinced that the club will overcome the current situation.
According to her, the management simply did not have enough time to present the entire new project and all financial guarantees before the commission's first meeting.
"We did not expect the license to be denied at the first instance. Therefore, we will now present all necessary documents to obtain approval," explains the general director.
She adds that the city of Le Cannet, the partners, and the management are united behind the project, and the new club has already completed much of the necessary work. According to her, the upcoming appeal is more of a technical procedure through which all requested guarantees will be provided.
This is precisely the most important news for Bulgarian volleyball as well. Darina Naneva has already been officially presented as a player for Virtus Le Cannet and is listed in the published squad for the 2026/27 season.

If the appeal is granted on July 2, one of the most promising Bulgarian volleyball players will begin her first season in the French elite without any obstacles.
Thus, after the initial shock surrounding the denied license, the mood at Virtus Le Cannet is now significantly more optimistic. And the final answer on whether Darina Naneva's new club will be part of the French elite in the 2026/27 season will be clear in just two days.
