Asparuh Asparuhov to volleyweek: We squeezed out every last bit of remaining energy, if we become more consistent, we can beat anyone

One of the most experienced volleyball players in the national team, Asparuh Asparuhov Puhi, acknowledged that the victory over Ukraine came at the cost of tremendous physical effort after Bulgaria's three consecutive five-set battles. The outside hitter, however, emphasized that it was precisely the aggressive play and the team's character that brought the "Lions" their fourth victory in the Volleyball Nations League.

– Puhi, despite the fatigue, you managed to achieve a very important victory. How?

– We managed to squeeze out the last bit of energy we had left. We were as aggressive as possible with what we had at the moment. We played well, served risky, pressured them throughout the entire match, and managed to defeat them.

– After three five-set matches, practically without rest, against an opponent who was fresher... What did you say to each other in the locker room before the match?

– We didn't talk about anything specific. At least Alex Grozdanov and I were saying that we didn't know where we would find the strength. Honestly, physically I felt even worse today than yesterday. But apparently, when you step onto the court, you find a way to give your all.

– What does Bulgaria need to improve before the last tournament of the Nations League? We saw that the rotations are also doing an excellent job.

– That is very important. We have good rotations in all positions – outside hitters, opposite hitters, middle blockers. We have guys who come in and immediately help the team. I would like us to clean up some elements of our game and become much more consistent. If we manage to do that, I believe we can defeat absolutely any opponent. But that depends on each one of us. I think it's good to talk among ourselves in the coming days and use the time until the tournament in the USA to iron out these details. I hope we succeed.
