Denislav Bardarov became one of Gianlorenzo Blengini's big aces in Bulgaria's dramatic 3:2 victory over Canada. The outside hitter entered the game in the fourth set and remained on the court until the end of the tie-break, finishing with 11 points, including 2 successful blocks and 1 ace. After the match, Bardarov spoke to VolleyWeek about the difficult entry from the bench, his contribution to the comeback, and his desire to continue helping the national team.
– How do you see your participation in the match?
– I think I did my job. I helped the team with what I was put in for – to bring some fresh energy and to perform well in certain elements. I am very happy that it worked out.
– It wasn't actually easy for you, because you came directly from the bench, and one of your first actions was a serve.
– Yes, certainly. It's difficult to come directly from the bench, but all of us who are on the outside always try to be prepared. When needed, we must help the team in the best way.
– And what do you yourself think you still need to improve in your game?
– I think I still have things to work on. There were two situations in the tie-break that I could have played better. I certainly have more to show, but I need to iron out these small mistakes.
– This is your first longer involvement. Is this the beginning?
– Let's hope so.
