Coppa Italia - records and facts, Bulgaria is present in them

The past final tournament for the Italian Cup set several records and a number of other achievements, which the organizers from the League emphasize:

15 - GAMES PLAYED IN TWO DAYS: FOR THE FIRST TIME

For the first time since the Del Monte® Italian Cup has been held in Final Four format, both semi-finals and the final for the trophy ended in a tie-break. In 3 other cases (2024, 2017, 2015), the semi-finals ended in a 5th set, but the final on the following day always ended 3-1.

75 - POTENTIALLY SAVED MINUTES WITH THE 15-SECOND TIMER

The 15-second service timer, experimentally used during the Del Monte® Italian Cup, definitely showed a useful and particularly relevant application, given the high number of sets played (and consequently rallies). 634 rallies were played at the Unipol Arena: by subtracting the estimated percentage of actions where the timer was stopped (court drying, time-outs, video checks, and other interruptions), considering the average duration between actions in the SuperLega (around 25 seconds), and keeping in mind that only one time-out per set was allowed, the total saved time is estimated to be up to 25 minutes per match.

29 - COUNTRIES FROM WHICH TICKETS WERE PURCHASED

Fans from over 29 foreign countries arrived to attend the Del Monte® Italian Cup. Spectators from Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain, not to mention Japan and the United States, and Bulgaria, of course.

758 - ITALIAN MUNICIPALITIES REPRESENTED

With an attendance from 758 Italian municipalities and considering the total number of almost 8,000 municipalities in the country, 1 in every 10 municipalities in Italy purchased a ticket for the event. A true "tricolore" Final Four, given that all 20 Italian regions were represented at the Unipol Arena: the most numerous was Emilia-Romagna, the "host" of the event, with over 200 municipalities represented.

800,000 - TELEVISION VIEWERS IN ITALY

Excellent ratings on RAI channels with over 375,000 viewers who watched live on Rai 2 the final between Cucine Lube Civitanova and Rana Verona, and over 400,000 total for both semi-finals. In addition to these are the viewers on Rai Italia and Rai Play. Rai's digital channel, besides the live broadcast, also aired an extensive pre- and post-match program with interviews and analyses.

€350,000 - FINAL FOUR REVENUE

During the two volleyball days, the city of Bologna showed receptiveness to an event of such magnitude as the Del Monte® Italian Cup: over €350,000 in total revenue from the event, with 9,125 spectators at the final (sold-out Unipol Arena) and 7,812 fans in the stands of the sports hall on the outskirts of Bologna for the two semi-finals.

1 - LIBERO MVP IN ITALIAN CUP HISTORY

In the final, which rewarded the perseverance and consistency of Cucine Lube Civitanova, who defeated Rana Verona in a tie-break after five intense and unpredictable sets, Fabio Balaso, captain and libero of the Marche team, was chosen as the Del Monte® MVP. The Italian national team player, who has won European and World Championships with the Italian team, is the first libero to be awarded this prize in an Italian Cup final. Furthermore, since 2022, this is the first time a libero-captain has won (and therefore lifted) a trophy in the SuperLega.

21 - FOREIGN MEDIA ATTENDED IN BOLOGNA

National and international coverage of the highest level, confirmed by the presence of 21 foreign media outlets at the Unipol Arena: journalists and photographers from Bulgaria, Slovenia, Japan, Poland, and others enriched the two days of volleyball, demonstrating the importance of the event. VBTV further expanded its offering with double commentary, in Italian and English, directly from within the Unipol Arena: the English commentary was entrusted to Clayton Lucas, who attended physically in Bologna for the second year, accompanied by journalist and VBTV voice Fabrizio Monari.

60 - POINTS BY NUUMORY KEITA OVER THE WEEKEND

Despite the tie-break loss, Nuutory Keita played a remarkable Final Four in terms of scoring: the attacker of Rana Verona managed to score 60 points between the final and semi-final, becoming the top scorer over the two days. He was followed by his teammate Rok Možič (41 total points), then Erik Loeppky and Mattia Bottolo, who scored 35 points each between the semi-final and final.

2 - TEAMS QUALIFIED FOR THE DEL MONTE® SUPER CUP 2025/26

Thanks to reaching the Del Monte® Coppa Italia final, Cucine Lube Civitanova with Alex Nikolov and Rana Verona with Rado Stoychev have secured their participation in the 2025/26 Supercup, claiming two of the four available 'quotas'.The other two teams will be determined after the playoff finals to decide the champion.
