Discussions about the necessary funds for sports began in the Standing Committee on "Budget, Finance and Tax Policy" of Dobrich Municipality. Representatives of PFC "Dobrudzha 1919" and VC "Dobrudzha 07", who received 57.2% of the total sports budget in the municipality last year, were invited to the meeting.
The volleyball club requested 35,000 leva at the beginning of January, but they have not received them. According to Stanka Nikolova, Deputy Mayor for "Finance and Municipal Property", the reason is an attachment order issued by the National Revenue Agency.
If the football club currently wants to enter the professional group, the volleyball club plays in the Super League, but there is a risk of dropping out due to financial reasons, alerted Todorin Nenchev, president of VC "Dobrudzha 07". According to him, the club's financial problems have accumulated over the past three years. When he took office, the club's budget was 600,000 leva. In the summer of 2022, the team's three main sponsors withdrew, causing the team to lose 130-140 thousand leva. Volleyball also lost another sponsor, efbet, due to the ban on gambling advertising, a contract that was worth 120,000 leva. "That's when the ordeal began," Nenchev said.According to him, professional players from the club have not received salaries since August 10.This is also the reason why four players "fled" from "Dobrudzha 07" after the Municipality refused to transfer 30,000 leva to the volleyball club.
Last year, the club received 373,000 BGN, of which 270,000 BGN went for the old season, and the remaining 100,000 BGN for the NRA. "Otherwise, they wouldn't have allowed us to play in the Super League if we hadn't paid them," Nenchev said. According to him, the club needs 672,000 leva to exist, to fight not to drop out. And these are expenses without salaries.VC "Dobrudzha 07" hopes for 600,000 leva from the Municipality."If we don't receive funds, we won't survive," Nenchev stated.
On Saturday, "Dobrudzha 07" will meet "Heber" (Pazardzhik), which is the main competitor in the group.Todorin Nenchev made a proposal to the administration for the club to receive 350,000 leva by the beginning of April to be able to finish the season.Stanka Nikolova committed to raising the issue at an operational meeting with the mayoral team.
Municipal councilor Georgi Drumev reminded that there are other sports in the municipality that also need support. Ivo Penchev, on the other hand, pointed out that the clubs are not municipal entities to expect the Municipality to support them, even if it helps them. Therefore, he suggested that the clubs identify other opportunities through which the local government can assist them. Deputy Mayor for Financial Affairs Stanka Nikolova, in turn, stated that the Municipality can support sports clubs, but not cover their expenses.
Yordan Apostolov emphasized that both clubs, in order to receive budget funding, must submit their reports.
