A few days ago, Polish media reported that Gheorghe Cretu would not continue to coach the Slovenian national team and would likely take over the Serbian national team. It seems this is the case, at least regarding Slovenia, as the news was confirmed by the Slovenian Federation through the Secretary General of the OZS, Gregor Humerca, in an interview for the portalEkipa.si:
"The news that Gheorghe Cretu is no longer or will not be the head coach of the Slovenian men's national team is true. Cretu's contract with the Slovenian Volleyball Federation expired after the Olympic Games in Paris. We simply did not renew the contract. We believe it is better for the national team to have new blood, so to speak. We are thinking about rejuvenation or including young players in the national team. We do not yet know which of the older players will continue to wear the national jersey. There is no point in dwelling on this issue. Since we decided to rejuvenate the team, we also decided that after three years, the coach's position should also be refreshed. We are moving in that direction. We have not yet chosen a new head coach for the men's national team. We are in contact with several candidates, but there is nothing official yet, so we cannot talk about it."
With the Slovenian national team, Cretu won third place at the last European Championship, fourth place at the World Championship, and fifth place at the Olympic Games. He became head coach in August 2022, replacing Australian Mark Lebedew.

Cretu coaches Skra Bełchatów, where Radoslav Parapunov plays.
