Before Bulgaria – Ukraine: The opponent sees his own with an advantage

Bulgaria's women's national team will play its last match of the second week of the Nations League against Ukraine in Bangkok (Thailand). The match is of great importance for both teams, who continue their battle to maintain their place in the tournament.
According to an analysis by Ukrainian media, Jakub Hlushak's team enters the match with a moderate advantage, even though the historical balance is unequivocally in favor of Bulgaria.

Ukraine relies on its block.

The Ukrainian squad began its participation in the Nations League as one of the underdogs, but showed that it can challenge even the strongest teams. The team impresses with an organized block, tough serve, and effective attack, albeit with some fluctuations in performance. According to Ukrainian analysis, the team's main problems so far have been a lack of consistency and loss of concentration in key moments. In recent matches, however, the team has looked significantly more confident, having already recorded a victory over Thailand and seriously challenged Poland.
Only against the Netherlands did the Ukrainian women fail to find a response to their opponent's aggressive play.

Bulgaria impresses with its attack.

In Ukraine, Bulgaria is described as a young and talented team, capable of displaying very high-level volleyball. At the same time, however, the Bulgarian team is rated as one of the more inconsistent squads in the tournament due to the high number of unforced errors.
The opposite hitter Mikaela Stoyanova is named as a key figure in the squad. The 194-centimeter tall volleyball player is described as a leader in offense, while outside hitter Aleksandra Milanova is recognized for her more stable performances during the tournament. According to Ukrainian specialists, Milanova could become a key factor if Stoyanova fails to unleash her potential. Bulgaria relies on an aggressive style with powerful attacks both at the net and from the back row. If they manage to impose their own tempo, the team could create serious problems for the Ukrainian defense.

The block could decide the match.

One of the most interesting duels is expected to be at the net. Middle blocker Borislava Sǎykova is among the best blockers in the Nations League, ranking third in the individual classification with 20 successful blocks. On the Ukrainian side, Svitlana Dorsman is sixth with 17 blocks.
According to the analysis, it is precisely the organized blocking play and stability in defense that could prove to be decisive factors for the final outcome of the match.

History is on Bulgaria's side.

In the 21st century, the two teams have met seven times, with Bulgaria having a significant advantage with six wins against only one for Ukraine.
The Ukrainian women's last success was from the European Championship in 2003, when they won 3:1.
After that, Bulgaria recorded four consecutive victories in official tournaments in 2018 and 2021, with the overall game balance being 16:7 in favor of the "Lionesses".
In the Ukrainian camp, however, it is noted that since the last matches, the lineups of both teams have undergone significant changes.

The forecast: a slight advantage for Ukraine.

According to Ukrainian analysts, the outcome of the match will depend primarily on which team manages to show more consistent play. Both Bulgaria and Ukraine demonstrate a high level, but also significant fluctuations in individual matches.
Despite Bulgaria's better head-to-head record, the Ukrainian forecast gives a minimal advantage to the "blue and yellows". The main argument is that the Bulgarian team's playing style is comfortable for the Ukrainian women, who possess a strong block and good defensive organization.
Thus, the match in Bangkok is shaping up to be one of the most important for both teams in the second week of the Nations League, and every point won could prove crucial in the battle to remain among the elite.
