Nikolay Kolev's PAOK continued their winning streak in the Men's Volleyball League, defeating Athlos Orestiadas 2-3 (25:21, 18:25, 25:17, 14:25, 11:15) as guests in Alexandroupolis.
In the first set, PAOK's poor start allowed the hosts to take a 1-0 lead, which was followed by a strong second set for the visitors, who leveled the sets. Again, the teams exchanged sets, leading to a tie-break. In it, PAOK's bad start gave the hosts a significant lead - 7:2. With three consecutive blocks, PAOK reduced the deficit to 7:5, with the side change occurring at 8:5. After the timeout, the 'double-headed eagles' narrowed the difference to one point - 8:7, but the hosts again took the lead - 10:7. PAOK equalized with their main weapon - the block (22 points from blocks for PAOK - against 10 for Orestiadas). A series of three consecutive points put PAOK ahead - 10:13, after which the visitors had three match points - 11:14. Without allowing the hosts any chance to react, PAOK closed the set and the match with 11:15.
The MVP of the match was former Hebar player Aleksandar Lyaphtov, who finished the match with 20 points (3 aces, 7 (!) blocks). Niki Kolev scored 11 points (1 ace, 5 blocks) and had a 56% attack efficiency.
