The International Volleyball Federation introduced a new edition of the game rules for the next four years (2025-2028), which includes some changes aimed at improving the dynamics and fairness of the game.
Key changes to the rules are:
Screening restrictions
Players from the serving team are now prohibited from raising their hands above their heads during a serve. This adjustment aims to prevent the serving team from obstructing the receiving team's view of the server and the ball's trajectory.

Positional errors on serve
FIVB has eliminated positional rotation errors for the serving team. Previously, players had to maintain specific positions relative to each other at the moment of the serve. With this change, the serving team has more flexibility in positioning, potentially leading to new strategic formations.

The flags of the line judges in the updated rulebook change their color from white to red. However, this is more of a formality – the judges were already using red flags anyway.

These changes were approved during the 39th FIVB World Congress in 2024 and are described in detail in the document "Official Volleyball Rules 2025-2028".
The changes officially come into effect from the 2025/26 season.
