Fans will not watch the "eternal derby" between Levski and CSKA in the semi-finals of the Bulgarian Cup, after the "reds" suffered a loss to DEYA in the quarter-finals. Sasho Popov's boys lost to last year's trophy holder with 1:3 (24:26, 25:22, 24:26, 17:15) after very contested first and third sets, where luck smiled on the team from Burgas.
The third set proved decisive for the match, where CSKA had a 20:17 lead, but allowed an equalization to 23:23, when Penchev made a service error and gave the first set point to Dey. Chavdarov equalized and Valyo Bratoev gave the lead back to the Burgas team. The very successful Patri Lamanek scored the last point of the set, giving Dey a 2:1 lead.
With their backs against the wall, Sasho Popov's boys started making more mistakes, their reception wasn't working, but despite that, they stayed close to their opponent. The "reds" collapsed in the second part of the set, when Vasilev and Lamanek scored point after point to make the difference 15:21. CSKA managed to get only two points back, and Lamanek, who finished as the top scorer with 22 points, ended the match. Kordoso added 13 points and Vasilev another 10 points for the victory.
For the "reds", Barzakovik once again was above all with 21 points, Penchev scored 13 and Velikov another 12, but this was not enough for a positive outcome of the match for the "armymen".
Thus, in the first semi-final tomorrow, the teams of Levski and Dey will meet.
