Bulgarian international Martin Atanasov will continue his partnership with German outside hitter Erik Röhrs, as both are now part of the ambitious project of Greek giant Olympiacos. The club from Piraeus officially presented Atanasov in early June, and shortly after announced the signing of the German international.
Thus, Olympiacos managed to simultaneously attract both starting outside hitters of Vero Volley Monza from the 2025/2026 season – a move that generated significant interest in European volleyball circles.
Before his transfer to Italy, the 201-centimeter outside hitter played for Olympia Berlin, Frankfurt, Düren, and Lüneburg. It was in the German championship that he made his big breakthrough, being named the best outside hitter in the Bundesliga during the 2023/2024 season, reaching the CEV Cup final, and recording an impressive nine aces in a single match.
The German international continued his upward development with his country's national team. In the 2025 Nations League, he was among the leaders of the Bundesteam with an average of 14.6 points per match, solidifying his reputation as one of the most promising European outside hitters.
For Bulgarian fans, the most interesting news remains his reunion with Martin Atanasov. After their successful partnership in Monza, the two will have the opportunity to transfer their established teamwork to Olympiacos, where ambitions are set for both a new title in Greece and a strong performance in European club competitions.
"I am really happy to become part of this team. We have a very strong squad and a clear goal – to win. This is precisely why I signed. I will give my all to achieve our goals and I can't wait to experience the atmosphere created by the Olympiacos fans," Röhrs stated after signing his contract.
With the signing of Atanasov and Röhrs, Olympiacos not only strengthened its squad but also brought together a proven tandem from one of the strongest leagues in the world. The Bulgarian-German duo is shaping up to be one of Alberto Giuliani's team's main weapons in the new season.
