The Bulgarian women's national team achieved a decisive first victory in the VNL. The Bulgarians defeated the Dominican Republic with a score of 3:0 (25:19, 25:19, 25:13) in their second match of the tournament in Group 2 of the Nations League. Marcelo Abbondanza's squad dominated almost the entire match and left no doubt about their superiority. The Bulgarians controlled the first set after its midpoint, in the second they built a solid lead early on, and in the third they completely crushed their opponent, after leading 22:9 and closing the match with a convincing 25:13.
The most serious proof of the "Lionesses'" superiority, however, comes from the statistics. Bulgaria scored almost twice as many points in attack – 48 against 25 for the Dominican Republic. In blocking, the national team also had an advantage – 10 against 8, and both teams finished with one direct ace each.
The total number of points won from game actions is clearly in favor of Bulgaria – 75 against 51.
| Indicator | Dominican Republic | Bulgaria |
|---|---|---|
| Attack | 26 | 49 |
| Block | 8 | 10 |
| Serve | 1 | 1 |
| Points from opponent's errors | 16 | 15 |
| Total points | 51 | 75 |
Bulgaria won the match mainly through significantly more effective attack and stable blocking play. An interesting detail is that the Dominicans gained one more point from opponent's errors, which means that the success of the Bulgarian team came primarily thanks to its own qualities in offense and defense.
In the remaining game elements, the national team also had superiority. Bulgaria recorded 80 digs in defense against 67 for the opponent and 114 successful rallies against 107 for the Dominicans. The only component in which the Dominican Republic was better was reception – 65 against 47.
| Indicator | Dominican Republic | Bulgaria |
|---|---|---|
| Digs in defense | 67 | 80 |
| Reception | 65 | 47 |
| Rallies | 107 | 114 |
The high number of digs in defense shows the excellent organization of the Bulgarian team in the defensive phase. It was precisely after these situations that many of the counter-attacks came, which broke the resistance of the Dominican Republic.
Mikaela Stoyanova was the top scorer for Bulgaria with 21 points (17 from attack and 4 blocks). Alexandra Milanova added 10 points, Paskova added 9, and Darina Naneva finished with 8 points. Borislava Saykova contributed 7 points.
| Player | Total points | Attack | Block | Serve |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mikaela Stoyanova | 21 | 17 | 4 | 0 |
| Miroslava Paskova | 9 | 8 | 0 | 1 |
| Alexandra Milanova | 10 | 8 | 2 | 0 |
| Darina Naneva | 8 | 6 | 2 | 0 |
| Borislava Saykova | 7 | 5 | 2 | 0 |
Stoyanova was the undisputed leader of the Bulgarian team, scoring nearly one-third of all points from game actions. An additional advantage for Bulgaria's performance was the distribution of points among several players, which made the team's attack difficult to predict for the Dominican Republic's defense.
The 3:0 (25:19, 25:19, 25:13) victory over the Dominican Republic earned Bulgaria 15.7 points for the FIVB world ranking. Thanks to the points gained, the national team climbed five spots and now occupies 21st position in the world ranking.
