The President of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation, Lyubomir Ganev, is now officially Vice-President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, after Vesela Lecheva and the BOC leadership elected by the General Assembly on March 19, 2025, were registered in the Commercial Register. This became clear from information sent by the newly elected leadership. Thus, the judicial saga surrounding the management of the Olympic headquarters, which lasted more than a year and led to a serious institutional crisis and blocked the organization's work, has finally concluded.
Vesela Lecheva was elected Chairman of the BOC at the General Assembly on March 19, 2025, after a 48:33 vote victory against long-standing leader Stefka Kostadinova. Immediately after the election, however, a series of complaints and lawsuits followed, which halted the registration of the new leadership in the Commercial Register.
Despite the legal disputes, the International Olympic Committee recognized the election results and the new leadership headed by Vesela Lecheva as early as May 2025. She was the one who represented Bulgaria at events under the IOC's auspices, including during the Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina.
Particularly important news for Bulgarian volleyball is that with the final registration of the new administration, the President of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation, Lyubomir Ganev, officially assumes the post of Vice-President of the BOC. He was elected as one of the five vice-chairmen at the meeting following Lecheva's electoral victory in March 2025. The other vice-presidents are Iliana Raeva, Krasimir Petkov, Atanas Furnadzhiev, and Rumen Stoilov.
In recent months, several decisions by the Sofia City Court confirmed the legality of the General Assembly on March 19, 2025, as well as the election of the chairman, Executive Board, and Control Council. Following the withdrawal or final rejection of all claims, the last obstacle to the registration of the new leadership was removed.
'This crisis lasted a long time, but the new leadership did not stop working for a moment, despite the difficult circumstances under which it had to operate. In these months, we received unprecedented public support, which was the greatest motivation for us to continue to uphold truth, justice, and fair play,' stated Vesela Lecheva after the final registration.
The new Chairman of the BOC announced that the leadership's first tasks would involve analyzing the organization's financial state, adopting a budget, and developing programs for the future development of the Olympic movement in Bulgaria.
For Bulgarian volleyball, the registration also carries additional significance, as the federation's president, Lyubomir Ganev, officially holds one of the most influential positions in the management of the Olympic movement in our country as Vice-President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee.
