Germany's head coach Michal Winiarski has nominated his squad for Paris. The coach intends to rely on two setters, one opposite, five outside hitters, three middle blockers, and a libero. Jan Zimmermann is also there as a reserve, who can replace one of the twelve players during matches for medical reasons. The final approval of the members of the German Olympic volleyball team will be made by the DOSB (German Olympic Committee) board and is based on the DVV's (German Volleyball Federation) nomination proposal.
The German national team will be led in Paris by captain Lukas Kampa. Besides 37-year-old Kampa, Georg Grozer (39 years old) and Christian Fromm (33 years old) are two other very experienced players in the team. Together, the three have participated in more than 700 international matches. Kampa and Grozer are also the only ones in the team who have already played in the Olympic Games: in 2012 in London. That was also the last participation of the men at the Olympics, with Germany finishing fifth.
