Itas Trentino and Italian national team setter Riccardo Sbertoli entered a new chapter in his life just days before the start of the 2026 Volleyball Nations League.
The 27-year-old volleyball player officially said "Yes" to his long-time girlfriend Beatrice at a ceremony in Milan. The news was announced by Trento, who congratulated the young couple and wished them much happiness.
The wedding comes at an interesting time for one of the best Italian setters, who is preparing for another summer with the "Squadra Azzurra" in the Volleyball Nations League.
Interestingly, Sbertoli is not the first major star in world volleyball to choose to organize his wedding during the national team season.
Last summer, a similar move was made by one of Poland's leaders, Kamil Semeniuk. The outside hitter of the "Polish team" married his long-time partner Katarzyna Dybczak in August 2025, and according to Polish media, he even received special permission from head coach Nikola Grbić to hold the ceremony during the national team's preparations. Even more interestingly, Semeniuk had already postponed his wedding once due to the Olympic cycle and the busy schedule of the Polish national team.
Thus, increasingly often, leading figures in world volleyball show that even the extremely busy national team calendar cannot postpone the most important moments in personal life.
And for Bulgarian fans, the news has an additional highlight. Just a few weeks after tying the knot, Riccardo Sbertoli could face the Bulgarian national team. The match between the "Lions" and Italy is scheduled for June 24 in Ljubljana during the second week of the Volleyball Nations League.
It is still unclear what roster will be used by "Squadra Azzurra" head coach Ferdinando De Giorgi for the tournament in the Slovenian capital, but Sbertoli is among the main setters in the Italian national team and has serious chances to be among the chosen players for the match against Bulgaria.
