Greek giant Olympiacos continues its ambitious recruitment for the new season, after officially signing American international Jake Hanes. Thus, the 28-year-old opposite hitter will become a teammate of Bulgarian international Martin Atanasov in the squad of the team from Piraeus.
The 211-cm tall Hanes arrives at Olympiacos after two extremely successful seasons with Germany's Berlin Recycling Volleys. With the team, he won two championship titles, the German Cup, and two Supercups, establishing himself as one of the strongest scorers in the Bundesliga.
Last season, the American literally dominated the final series against Lüneburg. In the three matches, he scored a total of 84 points, averaging 28 points per game, adding 7 aces and 6 successful blocks.
Hanes finished the season as:
Top scorer in the German championship
Top opposite hitter
Top server
The American also holds an impressive record in the Champions League, having scored 44 points in a single match – the best achievement in the tournament's history.
Before his stint in Germany, Jake Hanes also played in France and Poland, and with the US national team, he reached the finals of the Nations League in 2022 and 2023. This year, he is on the final expanded roster for the VNL.
Olympiacos announced the transfer with high expectations for the new signing, who is expected to significantly bolster the team's attacking power, which already includes Bulgarian outside hitter Martin Atanasov.
