Bulgarian international Boris Nachev will continue his career in Italy, as he will play for Joy Volley Gioia del Colle next season. The middle blocker comes from Padua, where he was part of the elite SuperLega during the past campaign.
Interestingly, according to iVolley Magazine, Nachev's new team is expected to play in Serie A2 in the 2026/2027 season, as it is very close to acquiring the sports license of Romeo Sorrento. The team from Sorrento is withdrawing from participation in the second tier of Italian volleyball because it cannot meet Lega Volley's requirements for minimum hall capacity.
Thus, Joy Volley Gioia del Colle will likely take Sorrento's place in the second tier of the Italian championship, with official approval from the federation and Lega Volley still awaited.
A curious parallel is that another Bulgarian international and middle blocker, Preslav Petkov, played for Romeo Sorrento last season. After a strong campaign in Serie A2, Petkov will continue his career in Germany, and now another Bulgarian national in the middle position, Boris Nachev, is about to take a place in the Italian second division precisely through the license of Petkov's former club.
