The president of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation, Lyubomir Ganev, described the outgoing year 2024 as "successful." The experienced leader revealed that in the next season, the men's national teams will conduct training camps at the base in Samokov.
We are sending off a very successful and fruitful year for the federation, full of all kinds of events in our country. All events passed with great success. The European title won by the girls under 18 will be remembered for a long time. The path we are on is correct. This will sooner or later lead to results. All these efforts and nerves are worth it. Our goal is always to play in front of full halls and to have more and more volleyball fans.Next year will be a record year for us. We have 6 teams that will participate in World Championships, as well as 2 teams that are 99 percent likely to qualify for European Championships. We will do everything possible to provide the conditions. I hope next year will also be more than fruitful. We hope to have top placements that will give confidence to the young athletes, as well as to us as a nation. For 2023, we have secured over one million leva for juniors, which come from our partners and are not from the state. We have strived to provide the best conditions. Our entire men's division will hold camps in Samokov. We want this city to become a volleyball center in the coming years. The base is great, it's close to Sofia," Ganev told the media.
He set as a primary goal for both the men's and women's teams to remain in the Nations League next year and revealed thatthe coach of the women's national team, Antonina Zetova, is no longer part of the CSKA staff.
"The discussions with her were positive. We have high hopes that we can achieve something. We want to create a blend of young and more experienced players," Ganev added.
He is categorical that for now, the BFVF has no intention of becoming part of the Association of Bulgarian Sports Federations. "As a duly elected president of the BFV (we remind that legal procedures are still ongoing and the new Management Board and president are not yet officially registered in the commercial register, editor's note), I have the opportunity for direct access to all important institutions, including the President and Prime Minister," Ganev assured.
"No one else can do our job. This decision must pass a vote of the Management Board. A federation cannot rely solely on the state and set high goals," added the former national player.
Ganev sees potential in the young generations in men's volleyball.
"The players are born within 1-2 years of each other. I see potential. The goal is for the volleyball players themselves to want to develop through the national team," concluded the president of the BFVF.
