Alessia Orro, the setter for the Italian national team and Vero Volley Milano, will transfer to Fenerbahçe for next season on a three-year contract, according to media reports in Italy. The Turkish club has offered a colossal sum of 600,000 euros per season for Orro and the same amount as compensation for Milano, making the deal worth 1.8 million euros. The player, who won Olympic gold at Paris 2024 with Italy, still has one year left on her contract with Milano, but Fenerbahçe's offer is making her consider a new challenge in Istanbul. The club in our southern neighbor is fighting to secure the setter after being disappointed by their elimination from the Champions League Final Four. At the same time, Milano is looking at alternatives such as Francesca Bosio, who is expected to be released by Olympiacos, to fill the vacant setter position.
In 2013, at the age of 15, Orro moved to Milano from her hometown of Narbolia with a suitcase full of dreams. She bid farewell to her beloved Sardinia to find out if her love for volleyball could one day become a profession. Twelve years later, after gaining experience in Italy (from the national team to Vero Volley, also passing through Busto Arsizio), Alessia Orro is considering choosing Istanbul as her new professional destination. On the Bosphorus, she will find the money promised by Fenerbahçe, who eagerly wants to secure the setter who won gold at Paris 2024 with Italy under Julio Velasco, as well as a top-level team with the naturalized Turk Vargas and the Russian Fedorovtseva.
